Our Treatment Care Team:
Amy Early, Licensed Veterinary Technician
"Hi! I just recently moved to the area to be closer to the beach; but I have been in Virginia my whole life, growing up in Lynchburg and then moving to Richmond where I lived for about 11 years. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in English and soon after decided to persue a Vet Tech degree. I graduated from Northern Virginia Communtiy College with a degree in Veterinary Technology in 2007 and then completed the national board exam to obtain my Veterinary Technician License. I have been working with small animals for the past 6 years and really enjoy the variety of my job and the hands on aspect of being a veterinary technician. My husband and I have four canine "fur kids" who are a mix of breeds and we are very much looking forward to taking them for walks on the beach when it is warm. When I am not working I love to spend time with family and friends, eat out, read, play and listen to music and spend time by the shore."

Annie Harris, Licensed Veterinary Technician
"Hello, my name is Annie, but I am commonly referred to as "Genius". I have recently moved to Virginia from Massachusetts and have been amorously welcomed into the AMC family. I work with a great team that feed my humor and my mind. My energy, compassion and natural need to 'fix' things led me to the veterinary field. I graduated from Holyoke Community College as a Veterinary Technician in 2001 and crossed over to the human species for a Massage Therapist degree in 2004. My six-year-old Pomeranian, "Callie" keeps me busy as well as smiling. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband hiking, boating, skiing, fishing or just exploring. I can often be found sitting down with a good book as well. Looking forward to meeting you and your 4-legged family members!"
Shannon Ewell, Veterinary Technician
"I was born and raised in coastal Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Since I can remember I have always wanted animals around me. When I was a child, my grandparents always had horses & lots of barn kitties. I enjoyed helping with the barn chores, grooming & feeding the horses. The cats were usually drop-offs or strays, who sometimes needed some nursing which I was more than happy to do. That's how it all began...............
While attending high school I wanted to take every science class they'd allow. That's when I made the decision to have a career in the Veterinary community. I graduated from Worcester State College in 1998. I then entered Becker College's Veterinary Technician Program and graduated in June 2001.
I married in September 2007 and recently relocated to Chesapeake with my husband Justin who was born & raised here. We have 2 cats -- Mr Peanut, an 11-year-old abbysian mix, and Maxine, a 6-year-old short-haired tortie. We also have 2 dogs -- Luna (aka the Pillow Princess), a 9-year-old diabetic Pomeranian, and Miss Ralphie Jenkins, a 3-year-old mini Poodle. All of them are rescues. I'd have more if I had the space!!
My interests at work include client education, nutrition and senior care; although it's hard to choose because I do like most things about my job. Outside of work I enjoy cooking, gardening, going to the beach, fishing and spending time with my pets, friends and family."
Congratulations Shannon, on her newest addition...A very healthy baby boy they named Mitchell!
Jade Mattacchione, Veterinary Assistant
Bonjour! My name is Jade Mattacchione. I am a Veterinary Assistant at AMC. I am currently in high school and will graduate in 2011. When I’m not playing practical jokes around the clinic, you may also find me in that furry, fluffy, friendly dog suit at Chesapeake Human Society’s Bark In The Park. When I’m not in scrubs I am in a leotard practicing what I do best, Gymnastics. In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, wakeboarding, and going to the beach. I have three wonderful dogs named Emmett, Demi, and Lucie. I also have a fat cat with an attitude named Rascal. Working with Animal Medical Clinic has taught me a lot, and will hopefully help me in my future years!
Heidi Wilson, Veterinary Assistant
Meet Heidi Wilson! Heidi joined the Animal Medical Family in April 2009, and we are so happy she’s here! Heidi brought with her a “go-getter” attitude, a lively sense of humor and a smile that is ready for everyone. She is currently working on an on-line Veterinary Technician program and is looking forward to the many experiences working at Animal Medical will bring her. A Virginia native, she enjoys camping at Lake Gaston, relaxing with her husband and friends, and refining her wine tasting palate. We knew she was a little crazy when we met her, but we confirmed that fact when we found out about her 4-legged children! Lincoln and Preston, (weimaraners who are determined escapees) and her 5 (yes, 5!) Persians; Vino, Chablis, Merlot, Gabby and Mr. Brimley. We look forward to having her as a part of our team for a long time to come!
Silas, clinic resident & mascot
"Silas is the name, sleeping is the game! Animal Medical came to be my home in April 2003 when my family moved to Guam and couldn't take me along. Since then I have ruled! I can usually be found in Dr. Carrico's chair or the smallest nook under her desk. Occasionally I find the need for a head scratch, so I put on my "I'm cute and cuddly so give me what I want" face and scope out the front lobby for potential pet lovers. I don't care for noise much so during the day I like to hide out in the back or sometimes a dark, quiet cabinet however I have been known to come out if you shake a bowl of food. There is something about the sound of fresh Purina OM being poured into a bowl that makes me tingle! I love the girls that work here and make my rounds daily to visit everyone. I sometimes offer up my services as "surrogate pet" and visit clients in exam rooms when their 4-legged children are in the back for a procedure. Life is grand!"
Our Client Service Team:
Lauren Mattacchione, Office Manager
Lauren is the Office Manager-come-Girl-Friday here at Animal Medical. With the support of Dr. Carrico, a few more years of management experience, and some college courses, her goal is to sit for an exam that will give her the title of Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.
She is a proud Navy spouse and mom of a high school-aged daughter. Her family includes 3 dogs: Demi (Australian Shepherd), Emmet (Lab mix), Luci (Pit Bull), and 1 cat: Rascal.
If there is any free time left after work, family and school, Lauren enjoys reading, horse back riding, and relaxing with friends!
Katie Adams, Receptionist
"Hello, my name is Katie. I am a proud parent to 8 children.... only one of which is a human: my daughter, age 12. The other 7 bundles of joy that fill my home are 3 dogs, 3 cats and a ferret.
Since becoming a Navy wife 15 years ago, I have transferred to many different places and picked up new life-long friends along the way. Each one has touched my heart and I knew they would fit perfectly into my home. I have been known to be an easy mark for a cat in a tuxedo; so at times, you may hear me speak of one of my many black and white cats. Unfortunately, the Inn and my bed are full at the current time and I am banned from going to any pet rescue shelters by concerned family members! Maybe when I find that winning lottery ticket, my dreams of filling my home with more 4-legged companions will come true!
Once our roots were planted in Chesapeake, I found the position for veterinary receptionist at Animal Medical and knew it was a great opportunity for me. Adding the knowledge of veterinary care to my 24 years of customer service has given me the tools to make my position here a memorable asset to our clients and my personal pets. I am extremely grateful to those who open their homes and hearts to the furry babies that need them the most."
Kim Corrigan, ('Kimmie'), Receptionist
"I think I w as supposed to be born as a cat. I mean, I love to sleep, I love to eat, I become amused by the most simple things like a pen being dangled in front of my face. Did I mention I love to sleep? ;-) My life was planned out for me as soon as I saw my first puppy. As I grew up, my love for animals grew, and I knew what my passion in life was going to be.
I first started in this field as a kennel attendant. I love that position because on top of playing with cute little furry animals, I had the opprotunity to meet new four-legged friends and make their experience away from home as comfortable as possible. My favorite part was watching how excited the animals were to see their family again and also be excited to see me again at thier next stay.
As time went on, my position grew to Veterinary Receptionist. The compassion I have for animals also extends to their human families, I am able to reach out not only to the animals, but also to the people who love them most. I am a mom to Sassaphras, a Yorkie with a liver shunt; and a stepmom to Lucky, a Sheltie with allergies and heart disease. I know it is not always puppy kisses and kitten purrs and I take pride in knowing I can help people through the happiest and hardest times in pet-owning.
At the age of 25, I know I still have a lot of life's little curve balls to be thrown at me; but I know that I will always have a furry companion at my side to help me through it all."
Diane Elder, Receptionist
"Here is a little about me. I'm the new face behind the reception desk and my name is Diane. I just moved to this area at the beginning of November. When I was beginning my job search and someone asked me what I wanted to do I quickly replied that I wanted to be in the veterinary field. It was something that I got a taste for while working in Indiana a long while ago. Since that job I have grown even more passionate towards my animal friends. Dr.Carrico and Lauren gave this stray a new home at AMC. Everyone here is great! The staff is professional, caring and supportive. I have met some wonderful patients and their families are OK too! No one is happier than me to be greeted by my new 4-legged friends. I believe people can learn a lot about how to be a better person by observing animal behavior. I have not been so happy to go to work in years!
Although I have been mom to countless numbers of cats and kittens, I really love dogs. Even though I haven't been able to fit one into my lifestyle just yet, I dream of someday owning a large mixed breed dog. I think I would love to have a shepard mix. Until then I will take the opportunity to shower our patients with love and attention!"
